Wisdom Teeth Removal

What are wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth are the final set of ‘back teeth’ to develop — typically between late-teens and mid-twenties. Many people don’t have enough room for them, which can lead to pain, discomfort, infection or other problems.

Our team at Shape Dental provides gentle, expert wisdom tooth extractions to protect your oral health and keep you comfortable every step of the way.

When do I need to get my wisdom teeth removed?

Wisdom teeth removal may be necessary if:
  • They grow in sideways and cause crowding
  • They get stuck under the gums
  • They cause swelling or infection
  • They push against other teeth

Taking them out can prevent pain and protect your smile.

What happens during the procedure

Wisdom tooth removal is a very common treatment, and at Shape Dental we focus on making the experience as calm and comfortable as possible.
Your visit will start with a consultation so your dentist can confirm that your wisdom teeth are the source of your symptoms.

After reviewing your X-rays, your dentist will explain the best plan for your teeth. Many wisdom teeth can be removed safely in the dental chair using local numbing, with the option of happy gas to help you relax. For very complex cases, you may be referred to an oral surgeon for specialist care.

During the procedure, the numbing ensures you don’t feel pain—just pressure or slight sounds, which are completely expected. If the tooth has already come through the gum, removal is usually straightforward. If it’s still beneath the surface, your dentist may make a small opening and place stitches afterward. The appointment typically takes 30–60 minutes, and you’ll be able to head home once it’s complete.

Healing and Aftercare

It’s normal to have some soreness or swelling for the first 2-3 days.

While full healing can take a few weeks, most people return to work and normal activities within a few days. Our team will give you clear aftercare instructions to help reduce discomfort and support smooth healing, which may include a mix of prescribed medication and good aftercare.
